Formula

Coffee = bean price per kg × dose (g) ÷ 1000; milk = milk price per litre × milk (ml) ÷ 1000; cup cost = coffee + milk + cup, lid & extras. Drink cost % = cup cost ÷ price × 100; price at target = cup cost ÷ (target/100).

How it works

A double shot usually uses about 16–20 g of beans; a latte adds roughly 150–250 ml of milk. Use your recipe and weigh a few shots to check the real dose.

Include cups, lids, sleeves, sugar and syrups in extras for takeaway drinks. Use the net selling price excluding VAT or sales tax.

Worked example

30 × 18 g ÷ 1000 = 0.54 coffee + 1.50 × 200 ml ÷ 1000 = 0.30 milk + 0.20 cup = **1.04 per cup**. At 4.50: 23.11% drink cost, 3.46 gross profit.
