GOPPAR Calculator
Include departmental and undistributed operating expenses to calculate gross operating profit.
Default numbers are an example, not industry data.
Formula
GOP = total revenue − operating expenses. GOPPAR = GOP ÷ (rooms × nights).
How it works
GOPPAR spreads gross operating profit over all available room-nights. Enter total hotel revenue and operating expenses for the same period, along with available rooms per night and nights. Use revenue excluding VAT or sales tax and consistently recorded expenses.
Under USALI, GOP includes departmental and undistributed operating expenses but excludes fixed charges such as rent, interest and depreciation. It is not net profit. Review your account mapping before entering totals; compare revenue and expense changes to understand a movement in GOPPAR rather than treating room rate as the only driver.
Worked example
50,000 revenue − 35,000 operating expenses = 15,000 GOP. Across 100 rooms and 3 nights, GOPPAR is 50.00.
Frequently asked questions
Which expenses belong in GOP?
Include departmental and undistributed operating expenses. Under USALI, fixed charges such as rent, interest and depreciation are excluded from GOP.
Is GOPPAR the same as RevPAR?
No. RevPAR measures room revenue per available room-night. GOPPAR uses gross operating profit from the hotel operation.
Can GOPPAR be negative?
Yes. If included operating expenses exceed total revenue, GOP and GOPPAR are negative. Review the period and expense classifications before interpreting the loss.
